The interior of the base rim is stencilled in black with PROPERTY OF SHELL-MEX & B.P. LTD, RETURNABLE ON DEMAND, and REGR NO 858887. The exterior neck bears a handwritten mark 2.57, likely indicating a date of February 1957. The globe is accompanied by a blue paper auction tag from Sotheby’s dated 8 February 1994.
