Manufactured by Theo & Co. Ltd. of Liverpool, this exceptionally rare late 1920s to 1930s "Multiple Pump" is a masterpiece of early industrial engineering. It was uniquely designed to dispense up to six different fuel grades from a single unit without cross-contamination, as highlighted by the embossed assurance "Spirits Guaranteed Not to Mix." This particular unit is perhaps the most comprehensive on offer, as all mechanical parts move freely and it features unique details not seen on other surviving Theo pumps.
The pump features a tall, tapered cast-iron body with a heavy red patina and is crowned by its original spherical opal glass globe, which has had one side repainted while the other remains in its original state. Notable mechanical components include a 5-gallon visible cylinder with triangular markers, a "Now Serving" rotating brand indicator with all twelve "pieces of pie" advertising inserts, and a top-mounted clock-face totalizer. Most significantly, this example retains its large three-spoke operating wheel and pump handle, components which are almost invariably missing from such units.
While currently fitted with an acrylic sight glass, the lot includes an original glass cylinder—still in its original straw packing and addressed to Theo—along with the original protective cage. This collector’s lot is further distinguished by its original brass identification plaque, a very good original canvas hose and nozzle, and an original "Theo Multiple" manhole cover from the forecourt. Adding to its immense rarity is an official Board of Trade seal sourced directly from the Theo office. This extraordinary package is accompanied by a rare 12-page colour sales brochure providing detailed technical insights into the Model E.6.
